Virginia Lake, in Stoneham, features the largest undeveloped lake in the White Mountain region, popular with fishermen, boaters and cross country skiers, connected to extensive regional trail network.
It is owned and managed by the U.S. Forest Service, White Mountain National Forest. Though name for the Massachusetts town, the stony landscape also reflects its title. The closest Maine Route is number 5 where, at North Lovell, one may venture into Stoneham’s secondary roads.
